AFTER THE STORM by Linda Castillo

I really enjoyed this book.  I especially liked that there was not a lot of lead in at the beginning.  The action started right off the bat.  Although, I guessed who the culprit was, the story kept me involved the whole time.  With two stories going on at once, I sometimes get them mixed up but this was not confusing at all. Very interesting book.  Thank you for the ARC.  I will put this into indie next.

THE PATRIOT THREAT

THE PATRIOT THREAT by Steve Berry is an historical fiction.  Events from the Roosevelt era are referenced in abundance.  There was animosity between Roosevelt and Mellon.  Although, they were enemies they were more alike than Roosevelt knew.  Mellon tried to get Roosevelt to listen to his advice but Roosevelt wouldn't.  Mellon then, gave Roosevelt a mystery to solve to show him this.  Roosevelt never solved it but many men have tried to in years past.  But leave it to "Cotton" Malone and he'll figure it out.  But what will they do with the solution is the question. It could change the world forever.  Good read and historical events are accurate

THE DAUGHTER by Jane Shemilt is beautifully written.  The author has a way with imagery and description.  However, I did not like the ending.  Sorry, I am a happily ever after person.  Naomi is 15 years old when she disappears.  The things the police and family uncover do not seem to fit with the girl they knew.  Her parents are both doctors and busy most of the time. They don't seem to really know their children and find this out after Naomi disappears.  I did enjoy the book but was disappointed in the ending.  But, that is just my preference.  I would recommend this book.

HUSH HUSH

HUSH HUSH by Laura Lippman is a good book.  Tess is a PI working for an attorney.  This attorney is representing an old girlfriend, who still has a thing for him.  The attorney, Tyner,  is married to Tess's aunt.  Wow. Why is melisandre back?  Is it really to do a documentary on mother's who kill their children?  Oh yeah,  she did that, too.  Melisandre is working with a producer, Harmony, to make the documentary.  Stephen the ex-husband will not let Melisandre see the girls or allow them to be interviewed but now he is murdered.  Oh what a tangled web, and all that.  Who killed Stephen and was melisandre really "crazy" when she killed her daughter.

FIRST FROST

The Waverley women were different.  Some of them welcomed the difference but others tried to run from it.  Sydney found , after several years, moving from place to place was not the answer.  Her sister, Claire was always comfortable in her differences.  Back together, after years apart, the two seem to find each other and themselves with each' others help.  A  mysterious stranger comes to town to blackmail one of the sisters but when the whole family pulls together he cannot hurt them.  Oh, and there is a weird Apple tree.... Well you must read the book, FIRST FROST.  Ms Allen has a way with prose.  Her words bring beautiful pictures to mind.  A must read.

AFTER THE FALL

AFTER THE FALL is excellent.  Patricia Gussin is great at relaying the mystery and tension in her writing.  Even though I knew Jake was the bad guy, the story still help my attention.  Each event was a surprise and the ending was especially masterful.  Laura must decide what she will do now that she can no longer operate after an accident damaged her hand.  Will she take the corporate job offered her?  Laura's life will become more complicated in this new job, in more ways than one.  She has many decisions facing her, also.  Tim, an old friend has proposed and Laura has many secrets to face before she is totally free to marry and live her life happily.  Good book.

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN by Paula Hawkins will make you rethink the truth.  Do we really know the truth or do we make up the truth as we want it to be?  The girl on the train watches the scenery but doesn't really SEE it.  Rachel makes up stories about the people she passes while riding the train to work.  I do it (well not on the train) with people I see out and about.  But she finds out, as much as she wants to believe the stories, that it is not how she imagined.  Even the people she thought she knew are not as she believed.  Great read.
