Seduction

I was very much surprised at this story about Victor Hugo titled SEDUCTION by M J Rose.  I would have expected the seances from various other authors, Edgar Allen Poe for instance, but not so much Hugo.  There were some history lessons in this book that I had never heard about.  The author, M J Rose, prefaced the book with the statement that the seances, affairs, and death of Hugo's daughter were documented so it was historical fiction I guess.
I enjoyed the book and learned some things.

Brain on Fire

Wow!  BRAIN ON FIRE by Susannah Cahalan is an amazing story.  I didn't want to put it down. I wanted to find out if she recovered.  This book makes one wonder as Susanah said how many people over the years have been misdiagnosed or not at all diagnosed.  The advancements in medicine are new each day.  We are a very lucky country for our financing in studies of this kind.

THE INTERCEPT

Excellent book. Jeremy Fisk is trying to catch a terrorist before he brings down our country.  I had an idea of the perpetrator but not why or who his target was.  I enjoy Dick Wolf's TV shows and this was just as good.  This book brings to memory the Twin Towers and what can happen without the super men of many government departments watching over all of us every day.

WRATH OF ANGELS by John Connelly

Good vs. bad?  Bad vs. bad?  This was a mystery of the murder kind and the supernatural kind.  Charlie Parker is called by the families of two men who, years ago, found a lot of money at the site of an age old plane crash. The families aren't sure what they want him to do.  But Charlie gets more involved than just finding a downed plane. He and many others are looking for a list. But what could be on this list?  Is your name there?

BONES ARE FOREVER by Kathy Reichs is about Bones called to examine three babies bodies.  Her partner and former love interest must accompany Bones to northern Canada to find the mother. They must work with another former interest of Dr. Brennan.  Do we see some jealousy goin' on?  There is also a lesson to be learned as is the case of most of Reichs books.  See how diamonds are removed from the earth and cared for until setting.

THOSE WE LOVE MOST

THOSE WE LOVE MOST by Lee Woodruff was a good book.  I am not usually one to read non-mystery books but I am trying to broaden my horizons.  The Munson family is very like most families out there in that they love each other and stick together in good times and bad.  The times are bad after daughter, Maura's son is hit and killed by a car on the way to school with his mother, Maura in tow.  Maura looks away and James, the son, rides his bike into the street in the path of an oncoming teen driver.  This is about how they deal with their guilt and grief.  Roger the patriarch of the family has his own guilt to deal with because of circusstances of his making.  And to top it all off can they withstand another tragedy that befalls the family?  This book was interesting not a kind of on the edge of your seat way but a could we deal with all this way.  I would recommend the book.

Syndrome E by Franck Thilliez

This book was excellent. It was a very convoluted and far reaching mystery. Franck Sharko is a seasoned policeman working on a possible murder when he meets Lucie a fairly new officer from a different region in France. He immediately sees himself in her, an obsessed, relentless investigator. Lucie is working on a case that hasn't really become a case yet. A friend of Lucie's is blinded by watching a movie and the doctors cannot figure out how. These two cases eventually intersect and lead them to Egypt, the Foreign Legion, Canada, and even the CIA. The film maker has imbedded the answers in his movie, the one that blinded Lucie's friend.

Deadly little secrets

DEADLY LITTLE SECRETS by Katherine Casey is an excellent book. It is very comprehensive and tells both sides of the story as far as I can tell. It is a true story of a minister who thought he couldn't be touched no matter what he did. He believed God had forgiven him for all he did. Minister Matt Baker was a womanizer who wanted to be with another woman but he was married. A minister couldn't get a divorce ; it wouldn't look good. Matt decided to kill his wife and make it look like suicide. He almost got away with it. His wife's aunts didn't think Kari would ever commit suicide so they started their own investigation.

DEADLY POLITICS

I really enjoyed DEADLY POLITICS by Maggie Sefton. This book kept my interest throughout and left me wanting more. Hurry with the second book in the MOLLY MALONE SERIES. Molly Malone has been in the Washington DC area before. She has come back again to start anew. She left to start anew. Molly lost her first husband to suicide because as a senator he tried too hard to do the right thing while so many others wanted to do the wrong thing. Molly ran to Colorado, her husband's home state to start anew and remove herself from politics. But now she is back into the political scene. Can she continue to uphold the morals her husband fought for so long ago. Molly's niece helps her find a job for Senator Russell. Molly really doesn't want back into politics but she needs a way to pay her mother's nursing home bills. Molly's niece is having an affair with a married chief of staff but when she tries to break it up she is murdered. The police think it is a random mugging but when her niece's office friend is also killed Molly becomes suspicious. Molly may have gotten herself into a dastardly plot. Will she get murdered also? I want to find out but the next book is not out yet.

The 500 A Novel  by Matthew Quirk
Very good book. Can a new lawyer beat the system and stay honest. When Mike Ford gets a job with the Davies Group he finds that he may not be cut out for their kind of work. He may have been a thief at one time but does he want to go back to that life? if he stays with the Davies Group is that how it would be?

Or maybe, as he says in the book "the crooks turned out to be honest and the honest men crooks."

15 Seconds. By Andrew Gross

I could not put this book down. Dr. Steadman is stopped for a simple traffic stop and things spiral down hill from there. Is someone setting him up and why? Can he figure out why and find them before they kill his daughter? There is suspense but it is not wordy.

"The Cornbread Mafia" Good Book If you are not familiar with this term it is a name given to a group of people from Central Kentucky who grew marijuana in large quantities. These people did not necessarily grow in the same group or sell in the same group. I have heard about the Cornbread Mafia all my life but may not have heard the whole truth. The author tells a little bit different story from his interviews with the people involved than what has previously been disclosed. Anyone who is familiar with the Cornbread Mafia should read this book. That is all I'll say.

Finished "Cuts like a Knife" by M K Gilroy to be published in April. There is a serial killer on the loose but can Kristen Conner catch the killer or will her anger get in the way?
Good book. I enjoyed the character of the Detective Conner. The author threw in a second love interest but didn't develop it may be part of a new story that was hinted at in the end. I will recommend it to customers.
