FIRST FROST

The Waverley women were different.  Some of them welcomed the difference but others tried to run from it.  Sydney found , after several years, moving from place to place was not the answer.  Her sister, Claire was always comfortable in her differences.  Back together, after years apart, the two seem to find each other and themselves with each' others help.  A  mysterious stranger comes to town to blackmail one of the sisters but when the whole family pulls together he cannot hurt them.  Oh, and there is a weird Apple tree.... Well you must read the book, FIRST FROST.  Ms Allen has a way with prose.  Her words bring beautiful pictures to mind.  A must read.

AFTER THE FALL

AFTER THE FALL is excellent.  Patricia Gussin is great at relaying the mystery and tension in her writing.  Even though I knew Jake was the bad guy, the story still help my attention.  Each event was a surprise and the ending was especially masterful.  Laura must decide what she will do now that she can no longer operate after an accident damaged her hand.  Will she take the corporate job offered her?  Laura's life will become more complicated in this new job, in more ways than one.  She has many decisions facing her, also.  Tim, an old friend has proposed and Laura has many secrets to face before she is totally free to marry and live her life happily.  Good book.

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN by Paula Hawkins will make you rethink the truth.  Do we really know the truth or do we make up the truth as we want it to be?  The girl on the train watches the scenery but doesn't really SEE it.  Rachel makes up stories about the people she passes while riding the train to work.  I do it (well not on the train) with people I see out and about.  But she finds out, as much as she wants to believe the stories, that it is not how she imagined.  Even the people she thought she knew are not as she believed.  Great read.

ONE STEP TOO FAR

ONE STEP TOO FAR did indeed keep me guessing til the end.  Emily has a wonderful husband whom she loves but she walks out the door thinking she will never return.  Emily's childhood I'd very different because she is the good twin and everyone loves her except her bad twin.  Caroline is always in competition with Emily, for her parents' love, for friends, and for boyfriends.  Could this be the reason Emily left her family and is hoping never to be found?  This is the mystery.  Even if you read the last few pages (which is my penchant) you do not find out the answers you keep asking throughout the book.

YOU

YOU by Caroline Kepnes, seemed similar to other books I've read.  The story has been overdone.  It was well written. The details were vivid.  The characters were well described.  The beginning seemed to drag before I got to the meat of the story.  I would recommend it to someone who enjoys this genre.

BONES NEVER LIE by Kathy Reichs

BONES NEVER LIE by Kathy Reichs will be out in September.  I think this is one of her better books.  Dr Brennan is faced with finding and arresting the one that got away.  Anique tried to burn Brennan alive while Brennan still lived in Canada.  First she must find her partner in the previous investigation, Ryan.  Brennan is stumped until her mother comes to the rescue.  Read the book to see if Brennan succeeds.

WITHOUT WARNING

WITHOUT WARNING by David Rosenfelt is great.  After his wife is murdered by her lover, police chiefJake Ribbins is faced with another disaster.  Someone is either out to get him or avenge Jake.  His hometown is flooded by a burst dam and the time capsule buried four years ago must be opened.  The capsule holds more than the city remembered being in it.  Who put these mysterious predictions in the capsule and why are they coming true.  A must read.
